Wilson and Penzias vs. Davis and Bahcall

It's not fair! Wilson and Penzias discovered CMB in months, while Davis and Bahcall had to work almost 40 years to get their results on the neutrino.

Comment on the role of serendipity in the role of science. Do you think serendipity played a part in the discoveries of either team?

Also, comment on the fact that three of the four above won Nobel prizes. Do Nobel prizes favor experimentalists or theorists? Who gets left out?

serendipity plays a major role in discoveries for science. That is the reason Wilson and Penzias discovered the CMB. Bahcall didn't win the nobel prize because it leaves out the experimentalists

No I don't think that it was luck, I think that it was that they found more information. They mostly focus on the experiments and not what you think that matters it's facts.

serendipity- when you discover something on accident, especially when you are looking for something else... uhmm most stuff scientists discover is because of an accident. And yes serendipity played part...

Nobel Prizes favor the experimentalists because you get noticed more and people believe that since you have a nobel prize that you can be trusted so they will believe your information easier... Davis is left out

It was Serendipity because Wilson and Penzias come upon the noise at a random time trying to discover something else. Davis and Bahcall search for years to get data on the neutrino.Davis was the one who did not win a Nobel Peace Prize. I think that because he theorized it he was looked past because he did not put those into action as Bahcall had.

1.Serendipity is when someone accidentally discovers something fortunate, when looking for something totally different. And most scientist discover things while searching for something else.
2.Experimentalists
3.theorist

serendipity helps in science, because most times when it comes into play, it helps you find something you weren't looking for in the first place. serendipityplayed a role for wilson and penzias. bachall was the only one not to receive a nobel prize, and he was the theorist, therefore i think the prize favors experimentalist because they can prove their work, where theorists cannot

1. I think they didn't use serendipity because they were looking for an answer.

2. experimentalists

3. theorists, bachall did not get a noble prize

It was with serendipity that Wilson and Penzias discovered cosmic background radiation. They kept receiving background "noise" with the antenna and were unable to clear it up. They eventually realized that it was actually radiation from space that they were receiving.
Bahcall did not receive a Nobel prize because he was a theorist, while experimentalists are favored.

1) Serendity played a part for Wilson/Penzia's experiment, because the descovered the static/radation on accident.
2) Bahcall didn't recieve the Nobel Prize, they favored experimentalists.

serendipity was a major factor in wilson and penzias discovery because if they werent looking for somethi9ng else then they wouldent have found the background radiation.

He didnt recive the nobel prize because they only favored experimentalists.

1. serendipity was found back accident as a background static noise.

2. bahcall didn't receive the nobel prize becasuse he was a theorist

1. I'm not going to say serendipity plays a major role but it does play A role. Wilson and Penzias weren't exactly looking for it but they did stumble upon it.
2. Experamantalists are usually the ones who get the results so they're usually the ones who get the credit.
3. Of course the theorist gets the back seat to the experimentalist. Its one thing to theorize something but its entirely different thing to actually prove it by doing something. And of course poor Bachall gets left out in the rain while the nobel prize winners get all the glory.
